Jazz, the only genre where notes that shouldn’t fit do. This is what makes the jazz genre so complex and difficult, for even the best of musicians. Playing chords that have sharped 13ths and flatted 5ths is very complex. And I know to most this won’t mean anything, however, it’s a genre I love.
Over the past two years, I’ve been playing in our school jazz band, and it has been a great experience! I’ve learned so much about reading music, building chords, and tone. The past to years I have learned more about guitar and music than I previously knew existed, and the great thing about doing this through jazz is that jazz can be seen in ANY genre. Country licks and blues runs all have jazz backgrounds and similarities. And when I play I try to pull out these other genres.
Now I know I don’t have jazz down, and probably won’t for a long time, however, when I love something like the guitar I stick to it. As my mom will attest to I probably spend more time on guitar than I should. I could sit and play for hours just enjoying the fact that I am doing what I love!
